External IT: the backstory
Every great company has an interesting tale to tell. In our case, it began not on the proverbial dark and stormy night, but a sunny afternoon, with three geeks, eleven years ago, newly graduated from NYU.
At the time, one of them was running an IT consulting business out of the World Trade Center, a company he had launched all the way back in high school. As for the other two, they were busy merely being brilliant.
The idea that the trio hit upon was to give business people a customizable tool similar to the then new and exciting AOL home page. What resulted was the first commercially available Portal Desktop platform that let small to midsize companies take full advantage of cloud computing.
Their creation was amazing then, and countless enhancements later, it’s even better. But of course, they are geeks. And brilliant.
Welcome to the birthplace of OS33
The much admired OS33 platform was originally created by the founders of External IT. (Aforementioned "three geeks.") In 2009 the decision was made to launch a separate corporation, OS33. It's purpose? To allow MSPs to license OS33.
Two factors drove this decision: the world of business is making the shift to cloud computing at a torrid pace, and the demand for OS33 in particular--the world's most productive cloud computing platform for small to midsize firms—simply couldn't be ignored.
As much as External IT would love to be the primary IT partner for the world of business, our first commitment has always been to excellence. To that end, we're careful to team with only as many new clients, in any given month, as we can properly migrate.
